Whereas:
Senate Resolution 10 violates over two centuries of precedent and crushes the
rights of the minority party by changing the basic rules of the Senate with only
51 votes; and
Whereas: Changing Senate rules requires 67 votes; and
Whereas:
The filibuster is a vital check, rooted in the
heritage of our constitutional republic, against the majority party's ability to
force legislation through the Senate; and
Whereas: Grassroots activists rely on the filibuster to block
unpopular power grabs, including Harry Reid's attempts in the last Congress to
ram through the "Card Check" Bill and Police and Firefighter Monopoly Bargaining
Bill;
Therefore: In the interests of freedom and our country's economy,
I urge you to cast your vote against Senate Resolution 10 -- or any other
attempt to weaken the filibuster and the other rules protecting the rights of
the minority party.
